Pigeon Forge // East Tennessee
Car rental for Pigeon Forge and Dollywood
No storefront in Pigeon Forge — pickup at TYS or Maryville. Family vans, sports cars, and the rugged SUV for the park roads nearby.
Quick answer
Drive865 doesn't have a Pigeon Forge location, but our Maryville pickup is about 45 minutes away and TYS is about 70 minutes. For Dollywood family trips, the Honda Odyssey Sport is the obvious pick — seven seats, easy entry/exit, parks in any lot. For adults pairing Pigeon Forge with Cades Cove or the Foothills Parkway, the FJ Cruiser or Miata are the better calls. Rates from $135/day, contactless pickup, no counter.

Getting a rental car for Pigeon Forge
Pigeon Forge doesn't have independent car rental storefronts. Like Gatlinburg, the local rental market operates through TYS (McGhee Tyson Airport in Alcoa) and through peer-to-peer platforms. Drive865 operates from our Maryville location — about 45 minutes from the Pigeon Forge strip by US-321.
US-321 from Maryville runs northeast through Townsend and connects to the Pigeon Forge area at Wears Valley Road. It's a scenic foothills drive that avoids the Sevierville tourist strip. During peak summer and fall weekends, this route is meaningfully faster than the US-441/US-411 corridor through Sevierville.
For guests flying in, TYS is the right airport. Pick up at Economy Lot C via our contactless lockbox, drive south toward Maryville, and take US-321 northeast toward Pigeon Forge. The whole drive from baggage claim to Pigeon Forge is about 65 minutes.
What car for a Pigeon Forge trip
Pigeon Forge has two distinct trip profiles. Family trips to Dollywood, Ripley's Aquarium, and the strip need a vehicle that's comfortable for a group, easy to park, and not particularly interesting to drive — the Odyssey Sport handles this well and the NV Passenger handles it for larger groups.
Adult trips that use Pigeon Forge as a base for Smoky Mountain driving need something different. The Foothills Parkway's western section is 40 minutes from Pigeon Forge. Cades Cove is 45 minutes. The Dragon is 100 minutes. For this kind of trip, the FJ Cruiser, BRZ, Supra, or Miata is the right answer.
Many guests mix both profiles — they're in Pigeon Forge for the family aspects but want one day on the Foothills Parkway or a morning at Cades Cove. The WRX GT is good for this hybrid profile: adult enough to engage on the driving roads, practical enough for the tourist-strip parking.
Parking in Pigeon Forge
Pigeon Forge has a trolley system that runs the length of the strip. Many accommodations have free parking; the main Pigeon Forge attractions (Dollywood, LeConte Center) have dedicated lots. Parking is not typically a problem.
Large vehicles (the 12-passenger NV) may find some attraction lots challenging in terms of space — the Dollywood main lot is fine, but smaller attraction lots can be tight. The Odyssey is easier to manage.

Frequently asked questions
Can you deliver a car to Pigeon Forge?
Case-by-case. We've arranged delivery to cabin rentals and resort properties in the Pigeon Forge area. Message us before booking with the address and timing — we'll confirm whether it works for your dates.
Is TYS the closest airport to Pigeon Forge?
Yes. McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) in Alcoa is the closest commercial airport to Pigeon Forge — about 50 miles. Asheville Regional (AVL) is about 90 miles over the mountains. Nashville (BNA) is 200+ miles. TYS is the right airport for a Pigeon Forge trip.
Can I add Tail of the Dragon to a Pigeon Forge trip?
Yes, but it's a commitment. The Dragon is about 100 miles and 100 minutes from Pigeon Forge. A dedicated Dragon day from Pigeon Forge means an early morning departure. Many guests do it — especially if they're already renting a sports car — but factor in the drive time when planning.
Can I bring the Odyssey into Dollywood's parking lot?
Yes. Dollywood's main parking lot accommodates standard vans. Dollywood charges a parking fee; check their current rate on the park website.
How far is Pigeon Forge from Cades Cove?
About 45 minutes (35 miles) via US-321 through Townsend. The Townsend Wye entrance to the park is a few miles from Townsend — follow signs to Cades Cove from there. This is one of the best arguments for using the Townsend route rather than staying in Pigeon Forge's traffic.
What's the best time of year to visit Pigeon Forge?
Spring (April–May) and early summer (June) are excellent — park is beautiful, crowds smaller than peak summer. October is the most popular month for foliage but is the busiest. Mid-July through Labor Day is peak summer and the heaviest traffic period.
