Experience gift — East TN
Give them a day in the car
You don't have to buy it. You don't have to keep it. Just drive it for one day. The roads here are worth it.
Quick answer
A Drive865 one-day rental is one of the better experience gifts in East Tennessee — a day in the Supra, the 1994 MR2 GTS, the BRZ, or the Miata on roads that actually reward a sports car. The gift-giver books it, the recipient drives it. Pickup at McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) or our Maryville pickup point. The recipient needs to be 21+ with a valid license and be listed as driver in the booking.

Why a driving day works as a gift
East Tennessee is genuinely one of the best places in the country to drive a sports car. The Foothills Parkway, the Cherohala Skyway, Deals Gap — these aren't marketing copy, they're the reason people drive from three states away to rent something manual and rear-wheel-drive for a weekend.
A gift rental gives someone who would never buy the car — or who owns a sensible car they couldn't justify replacing — a day where they get to find out what a 382-horsepower inline six feels like through a mountain pass, or what a 30-year-old JDM mid-engine car feels like in the hands. You're not giving them a car. You're giving them the specific experience of driving that car on these specific roads.
The experience is self-contained. One day, one car, drive it back, go home. No commitment, no maintenance, no depreciation. Just the driving.
How the gift booking works
The person paying books the car and pays in their name — that's the gift-giver. The person driving is added as the primary driver in the booking. Both need to be documented: the driver must be 21 or older with a valid license and proof of insurance. If you're surprising someone, make sure you have their license info before you finalize the booking.
Pickup is contactless. The driver picks up at TYS Economy Lot C (lockbox code provided in the booking confirmation) or at our Maryville pickup point. The gift-giver doesn't need to be there. The recipient shows up, gets the code, drives away.
If you want to make the handoff more ceremonial — a card with the lockbox code, a suggested route printed out — that's entirely in your hands. We do the car part; the presentation is yours.
- Book in the gift-giver's name; add the recipient as the driver
- Driver must be 21+ with license and insurance — confirm before booking
- One-day is standard; upgrade to 3-day for a long weekend if the budget allows
- Include a suggested route: Foothills Parkway west section is the classic East TN drive
- Unlimited mileage add-on available if the route is long
Which car to give
The car choice says something about what you know about the person. The Supra is the 'I know you've always wanted to drive this' car — dramatic, modern, the one they've seen in games and movies. The MR2 is the 'I know you're a real car person' car — mid-engine, JDM, 1994, the car that requires knowledge to appreciate. The Miata is the 'I just want you to have a great top-down day' car — accessible, joyful, no wrong answers.
The BRZ is good for someone who hasn't driven a rear-wheel-drive manual before and might be nervous about the deep end — it's light, approachable, and still genuinely rewarding on a curvy road.
If you're not sure, the Supra is the safe pick. It's the one most people recognize, it drives like the occasion feels, and it photographs well if they want to document the day.

Frequently asked questions
Can I book the car without telling the recipient first?
Yes, but you'll need their license information to add them as a driver before they can pick it up. You can surprise the date and not the booking details. Get their license number and state in advance.
What if the recipient has never driven a manual transmission?
The Supra is the only automatic in the sports car fleet — ZF 8-speed, very good automatic. If the person hasn't driven a manual, the Supra is the right gift. The Miata, BRZ, and MR2 are all manual-only. Don't give someone their first manual lesson in a car they don't own.
Can I buy a gift card or gift certificate instead of booking a specific date?
Reach out to us directly. We don't currently sell open-ended gift cards through the booking flow, but we can work with you on a specific date or a note you can present while the date gets finalized.
What if the recipient wants more than one day?
Upgrade to a 3-day booking. Three days triggers the multi-day discount and turns a single drive into a full weekend. The Foothills Parkway, the Dragon, the Cherohala Skyway, dinner in Gatlinburg — a weekend in East Tennessee with a sports car is a real trip.
Does the recipient need their own insurance?
Yes. The driver needs to carry a personal auto policy or a credit card with rental car coverage. Proof of insurance is collected at pickup. If the recipient doesn't have active coverage, they can't drive.
What's a good route to suggest along with the gift?
The Foothills Parkway west section (Walland to Chilhowee) is 17 miles of ridge-top two-lane with no traffic lights and views into the Smokies. It's the local answer to 'what's the best drive near here.' For a longer day: Foothills Parkway, then down through Townsend and into Cades Cove loop, then back via Maryville.
Can the gift include a specific car that's currently available?
Yes. Book the specific vehicle in the fleet listing. The booking locks that car on that date. If you book the 2021 Supra on a Saturday in June, it's reserved for that day — nobody else can take it.
