East Tennessee is genuinely one of the best places in the country to drive a sports car. The Foothills Parkway, the Cherohala Skyway, Deals Gap — these aren't marketing copy, they're the reason people drive from three states away to rent something manual and rear-wheel-drive for a weekend.

A gift rental gives someone who would never buy the car — or who owns a sensible car they couldn't justify replacing — a day where they get to find out what a 382-horsepower inline six feels like through a mountain pass, or what a 30-year-old JDM mid-engine car feels like in the hands. You're not giving them a car. You're giving them the specific experience of driving that car on these specific roads.

The experience is self-contained. One day, one car, drive it back, go home. No commitment, no maintenance, no depreciation. Just the driving.

The person paying books the car and pays in their name — that's the gift-giver. The person driving is added as the primary driver in the booking. Both need to be documented: the driver must be 21 or older with a valid license and proof of insurance. If you're surprising someone, make sure you have their license info before you finalize the booking.

Pickup is contactless. The driver picks up at TYS Economy Lot C (lockbox code provided in the booking confirmation) or at our Maryville pickup point. The gift-giver doesn't need to be there. The recipient shows up, gets the code, drives away.

If you want to make the handoff more ceremonial — a card with the lockbox code, a suggested route printed out — that's entirely in your hands. We do the car part; the presentation is yours.

The car choice says something about what you know about the person. The Supra is the 'I know you've always wanted to drive this' car — dramatic, modern, the one they've seen in games and movies. The MR2 is the 'I know you're a real car person' car — mid-engine, JDM, 1994, the car that requires knowledge to appreciate. The Miata is the 'I just want you to have a great top-down day' car — accessible, joyful, no wrong answers.

The BRZ is good for someone who hasn't driven a rear-wheel-drive manual before and might be nervous about the deep end — it's light, approachable, and still genuinely rewarding on a curvy road.

If you're not sure, the Supra is the safe pick. It's the one most people recognize, it drives like the occasion feels, and it photographs well if they want to document the day.
