When to rent a family vehicle from Drive865

East Tennessee draws family groups, corporate retreats, wedding parties, and college friend groups to the Smokies, Dollywood, and the UT campus area. National chains at TYS have minivans in their fleet, but their availability on peak Dollywood and UT football weekends is inconsistent. Drive865 keeps the Odyssey and NV Passenger available year-round as dedicated fleet members.

The Odyssey Sport is the right call for most family trips: seven comfortable seats, sliding rear doors, a real cargo hold for luggage, and Honda's Sensing safety suite for highway driving. Quiet, smooth, easy to park in any lot. The NV Passenger is for when seven isn't enough — twelve seats, full-size van, the tool for a 10-person friend group or a wedding party.

Wedding bookings frequently pair a family vehicle with an enthusiast car: the couple gets the Miata or Supra, the wedding party gets the Odyssey. Same contactless pickup, same Drive865 booking system, different vehicles.

Odyssey Sport vs NV Passenger — choosing the right one

The Odyssey Sport is the everyday family vehicle. Three rows: two in front, three in the middle (with the center captain's chair removed for a walk-through aisle), two in the rear. Sliding rear doors for parking-lot entry and exit. Fuel-efficient by minivan standards. Parks in any standard space.

The NV Passenger SL is a full-size passenger van — the kind used for airport shuttles and group transport. Twelve seats across multiple rows. Significantly larger than the Odyssey — plan for it to need more space in parking lots, and factor the greater length into parking garage situations.

The practical decision: if you're moving 6 or fewer people, the Odyssey is more comfortable and easier to drive. If you're moving 8–12 people and keeping everyone together in one vehicle is the goal, the NV Passenger is the tool.

Getting the Odyssey or NV to East Tennessee destinations

From TYS, the Odyssey and NV are the most practical pickup options for large groups flying in — they hold the group and all the luggage from a single Economy Lot C pickup, without needing multiple vehicles or multiple Ubers.

Dollywood parking accommodates both vehicles comfortably. The NV Passenger may be directed to oversized vehicle sections at some lots, but Dollywood's main lot handles it.

For UT football weekends, both vehicles work well for the drive to Neyland Stadium from any parking area. The NV Passenger is the shuttle for groups of 8–10 friends who want to park once and walk together.

Frequently asked questions

How many seats does the Odyssey have?

Seven. Front row: 2. Middle row: 3 (or 2 with the center captain's chair removed to create a walk-through aisle). Rear row: 2. All seats are real passenger seats — the rear row is not a jump seat.

How many seats does the NV Passenger have?

Twelve. Full-size passenger van with multiple bench rows. All standard adult passenger seats.

Can I use the Odyssey for a road trip?

Yes. The Odyssey is comfortable at highway speed — the 3.5L V6 is quiet and fuel-efficient (about 22 mpg combined). For a multi-day trip through East Tennessee's scenic routes, the Odyssey handles everything. It's not going to be exciting to drive, but it's competent and comfortable.

Is the NV Passenger easy to drive for someone used to a car?

It requires some adjustment — the NV is long (about 22 feet), sits high, and has a different field of view than a car. Parking lots and tight turns need extra planning. If you've never driven a full-size van, allow time to get comfortable before taking it through downtown Knoxville during rush hour.

Can I book the Odyssey and a sports car together for a wedding?

Yes. Many wedding bookings pair an enthusiast car (Miata, Supra) with the Odyssey for the wedding party. Contact us before booking to ensure both are available on the same dates — we'll help coordinate the pickup logistics.

Do you have car seats available?

No — we don't supply child car seats. Renters are responsible for bringing or renting their own car seats. Both the Odyssey and NV Passenger have LATCH anchors for compatible car seats.

Can the Odyssey fit on the Cades Cove loop?

Yes. The Cades Cove loop is fully paved and wide enough for minivans. The Odyssey is a practical choice for a family Cades Cove day — seven seats for the family, real cargo room for the stroller and snacks, and easy to park at the lot near the visitor center.
