East Tennessee // Honest gap

We don't rent the Tesla. Here's what we'd tell you.

Drive865 has no EVs in the current fleet. If you need a Model 3 specifically, Turo is your answer in Knoxville and the surrounding area. If you want a distinctive rental experience, our fleet is worth a look.

2023 Honda Civic Sport Touring

You searched for Tesla Model 3

We don't rent that. Try the 2023 Honda Civic Sport Touring.

If the Tesla Model 3 search was about a comfortable, modern, tech-forward car for a practical trip — the 2023 Honda Civic Sport Touring is the closest thing in our fleet. CVT, fuel-efficient, fully connected interior, Honda Sensing safety suite, comfortable at 75 mph. It doesn't have a Tesla's acceleration or charging convenience, but for a rental trip that's mostly about getting somewhere reliably without drama, it fills the same slot. If the Model 3 search was about an EV specifically — range, charging, or sustainability preference — we'd send you to Turo honestly.

Why we don't rent EVs (yet)

EV rentals require charging infrastructure on our end — we have to ensure the car is charged before every pickup and manage the charging logistics during the trip. East Tennessee's public charging network is improving but is not yet dense enough to make the rental experience seamless for a guest who picks up at TYS and immediately drives 65 miles to Tail of the Dragon. We'd rather not rent a car that creates a charging-anxiety experience.

The fleet evolves seasonally. EVs are on the horizon when the infrastructure and the right vehicle match up. Until then, we'll tell you honestly that we don't have one rather than pretend a Civic is a Tesla.

If you specifically need an EV in East Tennessee

Turo is the right answer. There are private Tesla Model 3 and Model Y hosts in Knoxville, Maryville, and the surrounding area with existing listings and reviews. The booking process is straightforward and you'll have the EV experience you're looking for. We'd rather you get the car you need from the right source than book something that doesn't serve the trip.

Alternatively, the national chains at TYS (Enterprise, Hertz) sometimes carry EVs in their fleet — call ahead to check availability, since EV inventory at small airports is inconsistent. There are also Tesla Superchargers in Alcoa (near TYS), Knoxville, and Gatlinburg to support EV trips in the region.

If the EV requirement is flexible

If what you're actually after is something more interesting than a rental sedan — better tech, better drive, better story — our fleet might be more interesting than a Model 3 anyway. The WRX STI is turbocharged AWD with a 6-speed manual. The BRZ is a 2,800-lb balanced sports car that makes a Model 3 feel like a sofa. The MR2 is a 1994 mid-engine turbo that turns heads everywhere it goes.

The Civic Sport Touring is the closest to a Model 3 in practical terms — fully modern, tech-loaded, comfortable, and anonymous in the way a Tesla is also anonymous for practical trips. Both are the kind of car you forget you're driving on the interstate.

Frequently asked questions

Will Drive865 ever rent Teslas?

Not announced. We add vehicles when the operational fit is right — for EVs, that means charging infrastructure at our pickup locations and confidence that the guest experience is seamless. That bar isn't cleared yet for East Tennessee's current charging density. When it changes, we'll add EVs to the fleet.

Is there a Supercharger near TYS?

Yes — there's a Tesla Supercharger in Alcoa (near TYS) and one in Knoxville. Charging infrastructure exists in the city; it gets thinner on the rural mountain roads. If your trip is Knoxville-centric with short days, a Turo Tesla is viable.

Can the Honda Civic do Tail of the Dragon?

Yes — it's a small, lightweight car that handles the curves competently. But if the Dragon is the reason for the trip, the BRZ is a meaningfully better choice. The Civic is practical; the BRZ is purpose-built for the road.

Is the Civic the cheapest car you rent?

The Civic is among our most affordable. If cost is the driver and you just need reliable transport in East Tennessee, the Civic works well. If you want something more exciting for the same approximate spend, check the BRZ — rates are competitive.

What about the Tesla Model Y, Model S, or Cybertruck?

Same answer: no EVs in our current fleet. For any Tesla model in East Tennessee, Turo is the right resource.

Can I pick this up if I'm staying in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge?

Yes. Our pickup is in the Maryville/Alcoa area near TYS. Gatlinburg is about 50 minutes away; Pigeon Forge and Sevierville are 40–45 minutes. Many guests pick up at TYS on arrival and keep the car for the duration of their trip in the tourist corridor.
