Farragut is one of the best-positioned Knoxville suburbs for Drive865 pickup. TYS is 15 minutes away via I-40 east and I-140 — closer than almost any other Knox County address except Alcoa itself. For Farragut residents who want to rent a car without dealing with airport parking overhead, the TYS Economy Lot C lockbox works exactly like a normal rental pickup: drive to the lot, find the car in the designated section, open the lockbox, and drive.

The alternative is Maryville pickup, about 25 minutes south on US-321. Maryville pickup avoids the airport lot fee and puts you 25 minutes closer to the back roads of Blount County — Foothills Parkway, the Cades Cove corridor, and the southern approach to Tail of the Dragon. If your trip is primarily Smokies-focused, Maryville makes the better starting point.

The shorter option: Foothills Parkway. The western section's Walland entrance is 55 minutes from Farragut. Seventeen miles of ridge road, no stop signs, views into the national park.
