Prom season — East TN
The car that shows up in the photos
Not a limo. The actual car. The Supra, the MR2, the Miata — cars worth photographing when you pull up.
Quick answer
Drive865 rents enthusiast vehicles for prom season in East Tennessee (May is peak). The most-booked prom picks are the 2021 Toyota Supra Premium, the 1994 MR2 GTS, and the 1995 Miata. Our cars seat 2–4 people — they're not party buses, they're the photo car and the arrival experience. Pickup at McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) or our Maryville pickup point. May books out fast — reserve 4–6 weeks ahead.

What a prom rental actually is — and isn't
Let's be direct: our cars seat 2–4 people. The Supra is a 2-seater. The MR2 is a 2-seater. The Miata seats 2. The BRZ fits 2 adults up front with tight rear seats for lighter passengers. These are not group transportation. They are the car that pulls up while everyone else is taking pre-prom photos in the driveway.
That's actually the better use case. The limo handles the group. The Drive865 car is for the couple who wants the photos to look different from every other prom picture taken that night. It's the car that gets pointed at and asked about. It's the car in the portrait that holds up in twenty years.
Parent booking logistics: the renter must be 21 or older with a valid license. If a parent is booking the car as a gift for their kid's prom night, the parent drives. If the student is 21 or older and drives, they're the renter. We can't book cars for unlicensed or underage drivers.
The right car for the moment
The 1994 MR2 GTS is the show car. JDM mid-engine, period-correct interior, red or white lines on that bodywork — nobody at your prom has arrived in one of these. If the goal is to be the car everyone talks about, this is the pick. It's also a genuine driving car, not just a prop.
The Supra is the modern statement. 382 horsepower, BMW-derived inline six, the silhouette everyone recognizes. It photographs from every angle. The parent who books it looks like they understood the assignment.
The Miata is the fun arrival. Soft top down on a warm May evening, the couple steps out, the photographer catches it — that's a photo. It's also the most approachable of the three: easier to drive than the Supra, less JDM-specific than the MR2, just a classic sports car doing what a classic sports car does.
- Booking the day before lets you do pre-prom photos in daylight — golden hour with the car
- Most prom rentals are Friday or Saturday one-day rentals
- Convertible top-down only works in good weather — May in East TN is usually but not always cooperative
- If the school venue has limited parking, the Miata is easiest to place
- Want to drive it after the dance? That's fine — it's your rental for the day
Booking and logistics
May is the busiest single month on the Drive865 calendar. Every weekend from late April through mid-May has multiple prom nights across East Tennessee high schools. We don't have an unlimited fleet — once the Supra is reserved for a Saturday, it's gone. Book as early as you can. Four to six weeks ahead is the safe window; waiting until two weeks out on a May Saturday is a gamble.
Pickup is contactless at TYS Economy Lot C (lockbox) or at our Maryville pickup point. If you need the car delivered to a specific address for photos before the dance, reach out in advance — we sometimes arrange that for local Maryville/Knoxville bookings.
If you're renting as a gift for a prom night, the booking can be made in the parent's name. The car hands off to whoever is driving. Just make sure the driver information is accurate in the booking.

Frequently asked questions
Can a high school student rent the car?
The renter must be 21 or older with a valid license and insurance. A parent or older sibling booking the car as a gift for a student is the standard approach. The driver on prom night needs to be listed in the booking.
How many people can the car hold for prom?
The Supra and MR2 are 2-seaters. The Miata is a 2-seat roadster. The BRZ has a small rear seat that fits lighter passengers. If you need group transportation for 6+ people, we have the Odyssey and NV Passenger — but most prom bookings are the couple in a 2-seater, not a group.
Can we take professional photos with the car before the dance?
Absolutely. Booking the day before or early on prom day gives you daylight for pre-prom portraits. This is one of the most common uses — the car is there for photos before the couple even leaves the house.
What if the weather is bad and we can't put the Miata top down?
The Miata still drives beautifully with the top up — it's still a sports car. Rain doesn't cancel the rental. We can't issue refunds for weather. If the forecast is iffy, the Supra or MR2 are hardtops and weather-neutral.
Which car makes better prom photos?
The MR2 is the most photogenic from a 'this is unique and editorial' standpoint. The Supra photographs dramatically in any light. The Miata is the most classic — soft top down, couple stepping out, it's a recognizable romantic image. Which one is 'better' depends on the aesthetic you're going for.
How far in advance should we book for a May prom date?
4–6 weeks at minimum. May Saturdays go first. If you have a specific date in mind, book as soon as you know it. We don't take holds — a booking with payment is what secures the car.
Can the car be decorated for prom?
Light, non-damaging decoration is fine — a ribbon on the antenna, removable magnets, window markers that wipe clean. No adhesives on paint, no shoe polish, nothing that requires more than a standard car wash to remove.
