Hardin Valley has grown significantly in the last decade: new subdivisions off Hardin Valley Road, retail along the corridor near I-75 and Pellissippi Parkway, and proximity to the UT Research Park that brings tech workers to the area. It's West Knox County without being Farragut: a newer zone, less established, but convenient to both the I-75 corridor north and Pellissippi Parkway south toward TYS.

Hardin Valley's road geography is defined by two routes: Pellissippi Parkway (TN-162) running north-south connecting to I-40/I-75, and Hardin Valley Road running roughly east-west through the community. Heading south on Pellissippi puts you at TYS in 20 minutes. Heading north connects to I-75. From there it's an hour north to Norris Lake or two hours north to Cumberland Gap.

For the Dragon run: from Hardin Valley, take Pellissippi south to I-140, follow I-140 to US-129 south through Maryville and Alcoa, then US-129 all the way to Deals Gap. Total: 75 minutes and 60 miles. It's an efficient route to the Dragon, faster than the comparable downtown Knoxville drive for anyone starting from the western suburbs.

The Cherohala Skyway combination makes Hardin Valley a legitimate full-day driving base: 75 minutes to Deals Gap, Dragon run, then Cherohala back loop through Tellico Plains, returning to Hardin Valley via US-411 north through Maryville.
